Common questions

The app can't find my location

Open the Settings app, then Privacy & Security, Location Services, and Marker Hunter. Choose "While Using the App" and turn on Precise Location. Indoors, the app starts with a rough location and sharpens it once GPS has a signal.

Why can't I stamp a marker?

You need to be close to the marker, about 500 feet, with a clear GPS signal. Markers whose location the Texas Historical Commission lists as approximate allow more room.

How do I get a smoother reading voice?

Open the Settings app and search for "Voices." Under English, download a voice marked Premium or Enhanced. Then pick it in Marker Hunter under Settings, Narrator voice.

What is a ghost marker?

A marker the Texas Historical Commission lists as missing. Visit its recorded spot to earn Ghost Finder credit.

Report a problem with a marker

If a marker is missing, damaged, or listed in the wrong place, the Texas Historical Commission asks that reports go to them directly. Include the marker's name and number, its location, and photos if you can. If a marker has been vandalized, contact local law enforcement first.
